Cromwell Place is an existing arts hub comprising a row of five Grade II listed Victorian townhouses & contemporary extensions in South Kensington. Open to the public, it’s a Membership organisation offering a first-of-its-kind exhibition & working space for art professionals. As architects we renovated the Lavery Studio at 5 Cromwell Place back in 2012 & this was subsequently amalgamated with its neighbours in forming the hub. Our new project for them encompasses two key elements:
1. Create a new properly accessible main entrance & reception on Thurloe Place primarily for visitors to the galleries, whilst also maintaining the existing entrance on 4 Cromwell Place for use by members & restuarant / bar visitors.
2. Improve & broaden the café & restaurant by relocating them to the Ground Floor & very significantly improving the kitchens & back of house facilities to better serve them.
Planning & Listed Building Consent were granted in early 2024 & the works are programmed to be complete in time for Frieze London 2024.
